The Rockefeller Foundation
Established in 1913, the Rockefeller Foundation is one of the nation’s oldest and largest private foundations. Some of its most significant investments historically include helping establish the field of public health in the United States and internationally, supporting the scientific inquiry that helped spur discovery of a vaccine against yellow fever, and supporting the research that led to the modernization of agriculture known as the Green Revolution. The foundation has an endowment of over $3 billion and makes an average of $140 million in grants and programmatic investments each year. Its work emphasizes the importance of generating and applying knowledge to address the complex and difficult challenges faced by people falling behind in a rapidly changing world. Its focus includes agricultural, biological and health science, social and behavioral science, technology and innovation, and public policy.
