The MacArthur Foundation awarded Chicago LISC an extraordinary five-year $26,000,000 grant to support its New Communities Program. NCP is a long-term initiative of Chicago LISC to support comprehensive community development in 16 Chicago neighborhoods. The five-year effort seeks to rejuvenate challenged communities, bolster those in danger of losing ground, and preserve the diversity of areas in the path of gentrification. In addition to its support of the New Communities Program, The MacArthur Foundation provided Chicago LISC with funding to support a program to integrate best practices in reproductive health care into school-based health centers in Chicago.

Living Cities renewed its significant commitment to LISC with a three-year grant of $6,650,000. In addition to general operating support, this grant will support the community development activities of 18 local and national LISC programs.
John S. and James L. Knight Foundation

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation awarded LISC a three-year $5,500,000 grant to support the local implementation of the Sustainable Communities Initiative in Detroit, St. Paul and Duluth. The Foundation also provided grants to LISC’s South Florida and Twin Cities programs.
NFL Youth Football Fund

The NFL Youth Football Fund renewed and increased its support of LISC with a grant for the NFL Grassroots Program, a partnership to create and renovate community playing fields across America.
Dick and Lisa Cashin
$5,000,000
Dick and Lisa Cashin made an extraordinary personal contribution of $5,000,000 over five years to support the Sustainable Communities Initiative, New York City LISC’s Prep for Prep intern program, as well as National LISC’s general operations. The Cashins contributed an additional $5,000 to LISC’s Annual Board Appeal. After an exemplary career with the organization, Lisa joined LISC’s board of directors in the fall of 2007.

Bank of America renewed its significant commitment to LISC with a three-year $3,750,000 grant. In addition to general operating support, this grant will support the community development activities of 19 local LISC programs, as well as Rural LISC. Additional contributions were made to the Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Jacksonville, New York City, Newark, Phoenix, Rural, San Diego, South Florida, and Washington, DC programs.

The MacArthur Foundation awarded LISC a four-year $4,000,000 grant to support the Sustainable Communities Initiative, which uses Chicago LISC’s New Communities Program as a model for comprehensive community revitalization in ten U.S. cities. MacArthur also provided LISC with a $250,000 grant to support a web-based social networking application targeting community development professionals.
The Kresge Foundation

The Kresge Foundation awarded LISC a one-year $1,500,000 grant to support the Sustainable Communities Initiative. Kresge provided an additional one-year $1,500,000 grant for the NEXT Detroit Neighborhood Initiative, a five-year strategy designed to improve the quality of life in six Detroit neighborhoods.
Citi Foundation

The Citi Foundation awarded several grants to LISC, including a $750,000 three-year grant for the California Capacity Building Partnership and a $500,000 one-year grant for National operations. Additional contributions were made to the Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Connecticut, Hartford, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York, South Florida, and Washington, DC programs.
The McKnight Foundation

The McKnight Foundation awarded a one-year $865,000 grant to LISC’s Twin Cities program, providing support for Payne-Lake Community Partners, the Corridor Housing Initiative, and the Careership Program. McKnight also awarded Duluth LISC a three-year $450,000 grant for its sustainable communities initiative, Creating Neighborhoods that Work – At Home in Duluth.
Fannie Mae

Fannie Mae renewed and increased its commitment to LISC with a one-year $1,200,000 grant to support the general operations of community development organizations that will preserve, expand and develop affordable housing throughout the country. In addition to this grant, Fannie Mae provided support for the 2007 Kansas Housing Conference.
Hartford Foundation for Public Giving

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving provided LISC’s Hartford program with several grants, including a three-year $660,000 grant to support the Hartford Neighborhood Development Support Collaborative and a $375,000 grant for the Hartford Collaborative for Community Organizing. The Foundation also awarded a three-year $75,000 grant to LISC’s Children’s Investment Partnership, providing technical assistance and training for child care centers in Greater Hartford.
Washington Mutual

Washington Mutual renewed its significant commitment to LISC with a one-year grant of $1,085,600. In addition to general operating support, this grant will support the community development activities of 11 local LISC programs, as well as Rural LISC.

The William Penn Foundation awarded Philadelphia LISC a two-year $1,000,000 grant to support the development and implementation of the Sustainable Communities Initiative in targeted Philadelphia neighborhoods.

The Annie E. Casey Foundation awarded LISC’s Centers for Working Families program two grants totaling $610,000. Additional grants were provided to the Hartford, Indianapolis, Twin Cities and Washington, D.C. programs.

The Home Depot Foundation awarded LISC a two-year $750,000 grant for the Healthy and Efficient Neighborhood Homes Partnership. Home Depot also provided $50,000 in funding for Bay Area LISC’s Green Connection initiative.

The Cameron Foundation awarded Virginia LISC a three-year $650,000 grant to support the Petersburg Community Planning project, an initiative that will help improve housing, spur economic development and improve services to families in Petersburg, Va.

The Kendeda Fund awarded LISC’s Gulf Region Rebuilding Initiative a two-year $650,000 grant to support the Mississippi Pre-Development Fund.
The Chicago Community Trust

The Chicago Community Trust awarded Chicago LISC $575,000 to support the Integrated Services in Extended Day Schools program. The initiative aims to provide integrated educational, health and support services to middle-school youth in five Chicago communities.
