Summary: Connecticut LISC (PDF)
As a Statewide program, LISC works with all types of communities—cities, suburbs and small towns—but a common trait among them is local leaders with a commitment to building strong and sustainable communities. In 2009, LISC supported our partners with enhanced investment and technical assistance that helped move important housing developments forward. In Stamford, we made major investments in Ludlow Place and Friendship House, which will create 171 affordable apartments in the most expensive housing market in the US. In New Haven, we helped launch ROOF (Real Options Overcoming Foreclosure) with local partners to restore foreclosed homes to the market. Our Housing Connections program continues to provide vital technical assistance to rural and suburban communities that will lead to 388 affordable homes. Finally, though housing remains the cornerstone, we also supported the opening of three child care centers, through the Connecticut Children’s Investment Partnership, providing 920 children with a strong start in life. For 25 years of work in communities, LISC was honored with a “Champion of Housing” award by New Neighborhoods, Inc. late in the year.
