New York City LISC

Summary: New York City LISC (PDF)

In 2009, LISC NYC continued to invest in Building Sustainable Communities in neighborhoods across New York City. Our work spanned investment in housing—with a strong focus on the preservation of existing and at-risk affordable housing—to greening and energy-efficiency; economic development; and the promotion of quality educational opportunities. The economic downturn meant that 2009 was an extremely challenging year for many of our local CDC partners; and LISC NYC’s First Responder Initiative, launched at the end of 2008, is responding to those challenges and helping our partners to weather the crisis—which is not yet over. At the same time, in a number of neighborhoods, CDCs are finding innovative ways to harness scarce resources in the service of holistic visions for community-improvement—from focused neighborhood greening and sustainability initiatives, to collaborative efforts to upgrade key commercial corridors.
