Philadelphia LISC

Summary: Philadelphia LISC (PDF)

Quality schools are critical to healthy, sustainable communities. In West Philadelphia—one of LISC’s Building Sustainable Communities neighborhoods—we are creating partnerships that connect The Enterprise Center CDC with 15 neighborhood schools to improve the quality of public education through increased parent and community involvement, and expanded community resources.

LISC provided $88,000 in grants to support the Sustainable Communities Initiative-West education program, which includes 50 new internships at local businesses for area youth as well as training for 60 community members to serve as volunteer tutors each week in targeted schools. In addition, school-administered workshops are getting parents involved and offering guidance and innovative ideas for them to help their children improve their educational outlook. Improving neighborhoods are built on the success of our children, and Philadelphia LISC is supporting these efforts in and out of school.
