The grants are part of the Foot Locker Foundation Community Empowerment Program, a multi-year collaboration with LISC that has delivered nearly $4 million to 54 organizations over the past three years. The program prioritizes grassroots organizations at a tipping point of growth, where the funding and technical assistance available through LISC can help them reach levels of program quality, delivery and sustainability that would not otherwise be possible.

Grants of $25,000-$100,000 are available, and nonprofits based in and serving 13 cities are eligible to apply, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Newark, Oakland, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Applicants should have a track record of impact in one or more of the program’s key objectives: community outreach, particularly focused on youth health and wellness; mentoring around life skills, academics and conflict resolution; and career development to build skills and pathways to employment.

What we do

As a community development partner LISC Atlanta believes it is vital to play a role as a stakeholder in the development and well-being of our communities-especially concerning our youth.  In distressed neighborhoods we find limited opportunities for positive recreational outlets, therefore, playing fields, parks or being part of youth organization can bring refuge from unsafe streets or other negative influences.  For stakeholders like parents, teachers and those invested with youth recreation these green spaces and parks bring peace of mind, and chances to connect families to their communities.  It has also been proven that communities with greenspace and youth activities attract commercial investors, keep crime low and establishes legacy in neighborhoods.

What we offer

NFL Foundation Grassroots

The NFL Foundation Grassroots Program provides non-profit, neighborhood-based organizations with financial and technical assistance to improve quality, safety, and accessibility of local football fields.  The program is a partnership of the National Football League Foundation, which provides funding and LISC, which provides technical assistance and manages the program.

Athletic fields can help transform neighborhoods by offering opportunities for recreation, education and relaxation that contribute to the local quality of life.  The NFL Foundation Grassroots Program seeks t redress the shortage of clean, safe and accessible football fields in low-and moderate-income neighborhoods.

Our Impact in Atlanta

Over the years our partner the NFL Foundation has aided in the repair or restoration of 14 school or recreation centers football fields, with donations up to $250K for these projects.

We are now accepting applications for these projects.

Home Based Atlanta United Foundation (AUF)

In partnership with the Atlanta United Foundation (AUF), we have launched the GA100 that plans to create 100 mini-pitches across Atlanta.  We currently have completed seven mini-pitches across Georgia and three more are in-progress.  We have additional pitches to go and want to assist as many communities and organizations as possible with mini-pitches.  Read the information and see of your community or organization has space for one of these fields, and meets the requirements.

  • Round 2: Construction of 10+ mini-pitch soccer fields in under resourced communities in Georgia to increase access to safe sports activities, specifically soccer, for youth across the state. Download our Round 2 presentation here.

  • Match Funding:  Grants awarded up to $100,000 and will require a minimum community local match of one dollar for every AUCF dollar (1:1 match).
