At the 3rd annual LISC Story Slam on November 10, 2021, we featured compelling personal stories from LISC community members and partners responding to a common theme: Turning the Page.
What is a Story Slam?
A story slam is a live storytelling event where tellers (“slammers”) have 3-5 minutes each to tell a true, personal story inspired by a selected theme. If you’re familiar with a poetry slam, you’re close to understanding the style and format of a poetry slam. At a story slam, the tellers use the theme creatively to tell their unique story in a way that moves, amuses, surprises, or captivates the audience. The teller of the most engaging story often receives special recognition from the audience. Participants and attendees may also be familiar with the format from the “The Moth” podcast, WGBH’s “Stories from the Stage,” or from attending a MassMouth live event.
