On September 20, LISC Connecticut and Wells Fargo cohosted an Appreciation Event at the Chrysalis Center in Hartford. This event celebrated not only the generous support of Wells Fargo, but the accomplishments of the Financial Opportunity Centers (FOCs) located at Urban League Greater Hartford (ULGH) and Community Action Agency of New Haven (CAANH).

With Wells Fargo’s support, these two sites were able to transition into full FOCs, providing them the financial capacity to serve more people in their communities, as well as access LISC’s official data tracking system, Salesforce.

“LISC Connecticut greatly appreciates Wells Fargo’s financial contribution to maintain and expand our FOC Network, and our shared commitment to help Black and Brown residents advance financially through financial coaching, employment services, and access to benefits,”
— Jim Horan, LISC Connecticut’s Executive Director.

The Financial Opportunity Center launched in October 2020, partially in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with ten sites serving Norwalk, Bridgeport, Waterbury, New Britain, New Haven, and Hartford.

“Financial health is one of our major focus areas as a company, and we’re proud to partner with LISC Connecticut to help with this important community initiative,” said Terence Floyd of Wells Fargo, and LISC CT Local Advisory Board Member. “As the state’s economy recovers and jobs opportunities open, these FOCs are well-prepared to provide coaching and training to individuals and families so that they can make the most of these opportunities and secure financial gains for the long-term.”

The event was attended by 40 people including special guest, Luke Bronin, Mayor of Hartford.

Speakers also included FOC staff Timothy Fraylon, Workforce Development Coordinator from ULGH and Patricia Tully, Director of Programs and Case Management at CAANH, as well as CAANH client Catherine Guzman, who actively participates in FOC services.

Currently, the Connecticut network consists of seven sites, including CAANH, ULGH, The Village for Families and Children in Hartford, Open Doors in Norwalk, Human Resources Agency of New Britain, Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury, and the newest site, Person to Person in Darien, which joined in September 2022.
