Elevating Equity
Elevating Equity is LISC DC's premier initiative devoted to fostering equitable and inclusive development in the neighborhoods (Historic Anacostia, Fairlawn, Hillsdale, Navy Yard, Capitol Hill) surrounding the future site of the 11th Street Bridge Park. Through an equitable development framework focused on addressing displacement pressures, LISC DC invests in a wide range of projects, initiatives, and organizations that preserve and create opportunities for lower-income residents and other historically marginalized groups.
$100 Million Investment Goal
To date, LISC DC has invested over $72 million which leveraged $610 million in investment supporting:
- 894 affordable homes,
- 6 high-quality community facilities, and
- 50 community partners.
In concert with our nonprofit partners, Elevating Equity represents a shared vision for a more healthy and sustainable neighborhood and city – one that fosters equity and provides economic, educational, and political opportunities for all residents regardless of income, race, or immigration status to participate, live, and thrive in their neighborhood and city.
To address the various forms of displacement pressures residents may face in a rapidly changing neighborhood, Elevating Equity targets seven different fields of investment:
Within each field, we seek to invest in:
- New projects and programs that create additional opportunities for new or existing residents
- Existing projects and programs that preserve key neighborhood assets and allow residents to stay and benefit from the additional amenities that development can bring
- High-quality community-based supports and organizations that provide robust wrap-around services for new and existing low-income residents and those with special needs
