757 Grassroots Grant
LISC Hampton Roads focuses its funding in three main areas in its efforts to create thriving communities: Affordable Housing, Small Business and Corridor Development, and Financial Stability. At LISC, we understand communities have varying needs and ways to reach the goal of being great places to live, work and play. Because of this, LISC invests in overlapping program areas that reach into every corner of community life. It’s important for us to partner with and fund various community activities, initiatives, and events as we seek to play a part in creating thriving communities.
LISC Hampton Roads encourages everyone to do their part in making the Hampton Roads region a great place to live. We offer support for these efforts in the form of grants and sponsorships of up to $5,000 in various areas of community development. Interested applicants can apply below.

Eligibility
- Status: Grants and sponsorships are only open to non-profit organizations
- Longevity: Non-profits in continuous operation for the past 2 years
- Camp or program must be open to the public
- Geography: located in the cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, and the counties of Accomack, Gloucester, Isle of Wight, James City, Mathews, Northampton, Southampton, Surry, and York
*Non-profits not yet established or that have not been in operation for two years can use a fiscal agent to apply.
Requirements
- Grant application
- Organizational documents, i.e. Articles of Incorporation
- IRS 501(C)3 Letter
- Flyers, notification for upcoming camp, program (as applicable)
- Business banking account
- At least two pictures (video acceptable) with short explanation, if applicable, after event, camp, or program occurs
Application Process
Applicants are not restricted to applying within a focus area above; however, applicants must be able to show a community need and impact in their application. Applications will be accepted up until midnight of the deadline listed below. Applications will not be accepted after application closing dates. Applications not submitted by the deadline will have to wait until the next round to be submitted. Applications will be reviewed on the dates below and cannot be altered in any way after the deadline.
We ask applicants to include required documentation at the time of application submission. Once applications have been reviewed by LISC staff, LISC will notify awardees on the announcement date below. Awardees can expect disbursement 30 days after the date of announcement.
