A Community Listening Initiative

In June, LISC Houston embarked on a six-month learning journey to inform how we can enhance our community development work to meet the dynamic and unique needs of the communities we serve.

Our journey is a three-phased approach to community engagement: starting with a broad survey we completed in June, virtual focus group conversations we are targeting in August, and community meetings throughout October. In our first phase, 22 neighborhoods responded to our request to learn more about their key priorities and needs.

Now entering our second phase, we’ve grouped these 22 neighborhoods into four regions (North, South, East, West). Utilizing the survey responses we’ve received from 22 neighborhoods, we’re hosting virtual focus group discussions for residents that live/work or have lived experience in these neighborhoods. Focus group discussions will be centered around learning from what we heard in the surveys, diving deeper to identify areas where we need more conversations, and setting the stage for convening in-person community meetings.
