Policy & Advocacy

Supportive public policies are critical to catalyzing change in communities building vibrant places to live, work, do business and raise families. LISC recognizes the important role that government plays in influencing cities, neighborhoods and communities. That's why we work with federal, state and local government to establish and safeguard funding sources, policies, programs and strategies that spur neighborhood revitalization in urban and rural communities throughout the country, and right here in Indianapolis.

Our approach to public policy is driven by the needs and concerns of the communities we work with, and is informed by the insight of our partners on the ground. That perspective makes us uniquely qualified to inform policymakers and promote policies that can change neighborhoods into healthy, thriving and sustainable communities.

Our comprehensive approach to community development, coupled with our track record of leveraging substantial amounts of capital, has attracted support from across the political spectrum.  LISC Indianapolis policy priorities include:

Lending & Community Investments

In partnership with the CDFI Collaborative, LISC Indianapolis advocates for increased investments to community development organizations in state and local budgets, the creation of a CDFI fund and other flexible capital options to support communitydevelopment programs.

Economic & Workforce Development

LISC Indianapolis advocates for increased market access and opportunities for underserved small business owners and supporting financial sustainability through employment and career services in partnership with our Bridges to Career Opportunities sites.

Affordable Housing

In collaboration with Prosperity Indiana and coalitions such as the Indiana Assets & Opportunity Network, Hoosiers for Responsible Lending, and Hoosier Housing Needs Coalition, LISC Indianapolis advocates for affordable rental housing and homeownership, fairhousing, and addressing homelessness.

Place-Based Community Development

LISC Indianapolis advocates for equitable food access and investments within the local food system. In partnership with community-based organizations, we support quality of life planning and the expansion of public and private investments in neighborhoods.
