LISC Indianapolis recognizes that small businesses are critical to the health of our economy and community. The impact of COVID-19 has been especially acute for minority, immigrant and women-owned businesses. Ninety-six percent of the grant recipients are minority-owned businesses located in the neighborhoods where LISC works. All grantees have 10 or less employees. Approximately 60% of the grant recipients are women-owned businesses and 92% work in the personal care or food industries.

“Together with residents and partners, LISC aims to address the challenges of COVID-19 with a distinct focus on equity and inclusion,” said Tedd Grain, Executive Director of LISC Indianapolis. “The resiliency of our women-and-minority-owned enterprises will be critical to our economic recovery. We must prioritize these investments in our traditionally under-resourced and connected Indianapolis communities.”

Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Indianapolis is the local office of a national organization that helps resident-led, community-based development organizations transform distressed communities and neighborhoods into healthy ones — good places to live, do business, work, and raise families. By providing capital, technical expertise, training, and information, LISC supports the development of local leadership and the creation of affordable housing; commercial, industrial, and community facilities; businesses; and jobs. In short, we help neighbors build communities.
With financial support from the Glick Foundation, JPMorgan Chase Foundation, Wells Fargo, MJ Insurance and IDS, LISC Indianapolis launched the second round of Indianapolis Small Business Recovery Grants for Minority, Immigrant and Women-owned Businesses in mid-June. With the help of our partners, today we awarded $5,000 grants to 25 small businesses. Click here to watch a watch a short video announcing the grantees:
