Bridges to Career Opportunities program is a promising job initiative now operational at six neighborhood centers in Indianapolis. This program has helped pave a path to sustainable financial and career success for more than 1,100 people. Meet one of them.
Many adults eager to work are unable to take advantage of traditional job training programs due to limited math or reading abilities, or because of financial, childcare, or transportation challenges. Bridges to Career Opportunities is a LISC program that offers services to meet these challenges head on, providing a pathway to jobs in local growth industries —such as healthcare, construction, and technology – for unemployed and underemployed adults who face the highest systemic obstacles to opportunity in our economy.
Bridges to Career Opportunities provides three foundational services – employment coaching, financial coaching, and income support services – while also integrating adult basic education with short-term occupational skills training. In Indianapolis, the program is operational at six neighborhood centers.
Some 1,100 people across Indianapolis have enrolled in education and training, with more than 800 completing an occupational skills training program. In this video, meet one of them, Dennis Marroquin, who has a new career in construction after going through a Bridges to Career Opportunities program run by La Plaza, a LISC Indianapolis partner.
