Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Indianapolis is excited to announce the appointment of Cindy Taylor, Community Lending Officer at Union Savings Bank, to its Local Advisory Board (LAB). Cindy brings nearly 20 years of experience in banking and community development, making her an exceptional addition to LISC’s mission of fostering inclusive growth and revitalization in Central Indiana.
For Cindy, joining the LAB is both a professional and personal alignment with her passion for community development. Reflecting on her new role, Cindy shared that her position as Community Lending Officer at Union Savings Bank has brought her back into the heart of the work she loves. “Having spent nearly two decades working in the community development circle, I wanted to align myself with an organization that has a pulse on what’s being done in Central Indiana,” she said.
Cindy’s extensive background as a lender for nonprofit organizations and affordable housing projects offers a unique perspective to the LAB. “I hope my experience brings insight and ideas that strengthen our collaborative efforts,” she explained. Cindy sees the shortage of safe, affordable rental housing as one of the biggest challenges facing Central Indiana, noting that “since 2020, rental housing has deteriorated while rents have skyrocketed, negatively impacting renters within our communities.”
Beyond housing, Cindy highlighted other critical challenges, including food deserts, predatory financial services, and the lack of accessible banking and retail services in low-to-moderate income neighborhoods. She believes that by addressing these issues through thoughtful, intentional collaboration, lasting change is possible. “When we work together to enrich the community, we can build a stronger, more positive environment for our neighbors,” Cindy said.
Cindy’s personal values—grace, integrity, character, and understanding—serve as a guiding force in her work and life. She sees these values as foundational to LISC’s mission, saying, “The work we do together at LISC is grounded in these principles. It’s my desire to leave the world a better place, and by using my time, talent, and resources during my tenure at LISC, I believe we can achieve our collective mission.”
When asked what advice guides her work, Cindy shared a simple yet impactful mantra: “Haste makes waste. Thoughtful and intentional collaborative work will make a difference.” In her free time, Cindy enjoys knitting, walking on the beach, and spending time with loved ones, embracing a calm and intentional lifestyle that keeps her centered and connected.
We are thrilled to have Cindy’s expertise, insight, and dedication on our Local Advisory Board. Please join us in welcoming Cindy Taylor to the LISC Indianapolis family as we continue building vibrant, thriving neighborhoods throughout Central Indiana.
