My name is Zaria Fancy and I am serving as the LISC AmeriCorps member at John Boner Neighborhood Centers.
This program intrigued me because of the location of the building I’ll be working in and the opportunities for career advancement within the organization. Entrepreneurship is my main area of interest. In the future I’d like to to run my own business right here in Indianapolis. I would love for my business to give the community a safe space to engage with each other and help build a stronger community.
Entrepreneurs reside in every community in our country. My current role connects me with like-minded individuals who are well-invested in the community. Making connections is important for entrepreneurs because it can help businesses grow. Networking can help entrepreneurs gain access to resources, build partnerships, and even find customers.
LISC AmeriCorps equips emerging leaders with the skills to effect long-term community-based change. After my AmeriCorps service ends I am interested in advancing my career and continuing to positively impact the community. At John Boner I have learned many skills that I will utilize in my career. I also hope to continue learning valuable skills from my colleagues.
