Revitalizing Kalamazoo: LISC Launches Grant Program for Rental Unit Rehabilitation

Kalamazoo, MI (July 17, 2024) – The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is proud to announce the launch of its Grant Program for Rental Unit Rehabilitation, starting July 17th, 2024, made possible by the generous funding from the City of Kalamazoo. 

Aimed at revitalizing the City of Kalamazoo through the rehabilitation of rental units, this initiative focuses on enhancing the quality of housing, fostering community development, and supporting vulnerable households through strategic partnerships and rehabilitation initiatives. 

With the goals of establishing relationships with local landlords, ensuring timely completion of rehabilitation, and facilitating agreements with Housing Choice Voucher households. This is a collaborative effort with nonprofit partners and private developers to secure agreements, oversee rehabilitation projects, and assist with tenant placement. 

LISC is a non-profit organization that partners with local businesses and organizations to improve inclusion and equity in communities.

The program requirements include property ownership in eligible City of Kalamazoo Census Tracts:  

Eligible activities encompass the rehabilitation of rental units occupied by Housing Choice Voucher households, with nonprofit partners and private developers invited to apply. 

Participants in the program are required to provide various documents, including recorded property deeds, insurance declarations, mortgage statements, and organizational documents. This collaborative effort represents a commitment to enhancing the quality of housing in Kalamazoo and ensuring that all residents have access to safe and affordable housing.
