Kansas City Public School’s Lincoln Tigers will soon be practicing and competing on a new synthetic turf field, thanks to a $250,000 grant from the Kansas City Chiefs and the Greater Kansas City Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC).
The grant is funded through the National Football League Grassroots Program, a partnership with the NFL and LISC. The program has provided $46 million in support for the renovation and construction of more than 300 football fields in NFL communities since its inception in 1998.
“Lincoln College Preparatory Academy is a crown jewel of educational excellence in our community. Greater Kansas City LISC is proud to partner again with the Chiefs to deliver an asset that builds health and community spirit,” said Stephen Samuels, Greater Kansas City LISC Executive Director. “These renewed athletic fields reflect the vision of the families and children who use them. We know the neighborhoods will be stronger and more resilient with facilities like these.”
Resurfacing and renovating Lincoln’s football field is scheduled to be completed in the fall. KC Public Schools will also open up the field for practices and games to community groups including: University of Missouri Extension and 4H, KC Metro Conference, Urban Youth Football League, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and KC Spartans Football.
