Thrive: The Road to 40 Spotlight WyCo Mutual Aid

LISC Greater Kansas City’s annual community development celebration, Thrive, has been a tremendous success over the past four years. Each year, we have paid tribute to deserving individuals, organizations, and businesses that have made our community a more inclusive, resilient, and thriving place to live, work, do business, and raise families.

WyCo Mutual Aid has a short but impactful presence in Wyandotte County. The organization was birthed in response to the Covid-19 global pandemic, where unfortunately government and nonprofit aid were not enough to fill the gaps within the community. WyCo Mutual Aid was created to fill the void with a community helping community response. Founders, Kimberly Weaver and Dustin Hare, formed the WyCo Mutual Aid Solidarity Fund, a Cash App that allows for community members to donate to help their fellow neighbors with expenses.

The greatest strength and assets of the residence in the community is resiliency. They are constantly in a position to build on what they don’t have but we always make sure it comes together.
