A Visit to Arlington, the Home of a Tiny House

Recently, the LISC AmeriCorps members and the LISC team attended a great monthly meeting at Housing Corporation of Arlington (HCA), where a LISC AmeriCorps member Jackson Hamilton presented his service in the beautiful community of Arlington, Massachusetts. HCA owns and manages 151 units of affordable housing in Arlington, serving a wide range of incomes and family types. HCA is also actively building a pipeline in order to continue to expand housing affordability through acquisition and rehabilitation of existing properties or new construction. They continue to provide services to help families remain stable and to engage tenants in local decision making.

The LISC Massachusetts AmeriCorps members were given a special tour for the recently-developed accessory dwelling unit (ADU) at Dorothy Road — Arlington’s first all electric, fully solar-powered, affordable home. This project was recently completed and ready to be rented. With the recent passage of the Affordable Homes Act which allows the construction of ADUs, we’re eager to see how these small homes will have a sizeable impact on housing.
