The 3800 block of West Vliet Street is getting a boost, thanks to matching funds from LISC's commercial corridor fund.
LISC provided $20,000 in matching funds for façade improvements for businesses in a one block area. LISC is working with Near West Side Partners, Washington Park Partners, and Martin Drive Neighborhood Association to "cluster" the impact of the improvements. These funds will be matched by the City of Milwaukee façade grant program, Near West Side Business Improvement District and Washington Park Neighborhood Improvement District.
The LISC funds were part of a grant from Wells Fargo, who has a long-standing commitment to the neighborhood.
Mike Madson, owner of Color Wheel Painting, purchased the former Lyric Theater Building in 2013. He appreciates the centralized location for his business. Madson is donating paint to other projects on the block and looks forward to restoring his own building.
Additional properties include the Hmong American Friendship Association, PWD Computers owned by Antwon Perkins, and three vacant, but recently purchased, properties on the other side of the street. Stay tuned for the "before and after" story this fall!
