Community Leadership
As part of our mission to build a strong, sustainable, and resilient community development sector in New York City, LISC NY offers leadership development programs that cultivate the next generation of community development leaders and practitioners; and build staff capacity of our community based partners.
Through our work, LISC NY places diverse talent that reflects the communities we serve in positions at our community based partners. While working at community based organizations, these program participants gain the first-hand knowledge and experience needed to be successful leaders in the field of community development. Our programs cultivate professional development, empowering participants with the skills they need to navigate their chosen career paths.
LISC NY exposes young students of color to the field of community development through our Cashin Community Development Fellowship. Through a partnership with Prep for Prep, LISC places local high school and college students in summer jobs with our community-based partners and LISC to gain first-hand experience in the field.
With funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects over 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to improve lives, strengthen communities, and inspire civic engagement. In NYC, LISC places AmeriCorps members with our community-based partners to help them carry out their work, and to empower members as leaders of long-term community change.
