Peloton Community Wellness
In 2021, LISC and Peloton forged a partnership to advance racial equity and democratize access to fitness resources. The new collaboration propels Peloton’s Racial Equity Pledge and LISC’s Project 10X community assets and well-being pillar, which focuses on ensuring BIPOC children and families have access to the facilities and services that are fundamental to improved outcomes in health, wealth, and opportunity. Together we will support the activation of community-centered fitness and wellness spaces in the Bronx, with a focus on increasing opportunities for physical activity among low-to-moderate income Black adults and families.
To achieve these goals, LISC NY brought in our long-term community based partner Women’s Housing Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco), a community development organization whose focus and programming spans a range of areas including early education, after school programs, food access, cultural programming, affordable housing, and economic opportunity. WHEDco is working to transform an unoccupied 2,450-square-foot fitness space into a vibrant wellness center and implement collaborative health programming across Bronx Commons, a new mixed-use development with housing, health, education, cultural and small business retail components. The wellness center will feature Peloton equipment and digital health content in addition to open areas for individual and group training. WHEDco will collaborate with stakeholders across the Bronx Commons campus to connect residents to Peloton resources and engage the broader community in robust fitness, nutrition and mental health programming and special events. This dynamic wellness center is planned to open in Fall 2021.
