Commercial Corridors
From Lancaster Avenue to Olney’s North 5th Street, local commercial corridors are the backbone of our communities. LISC develops the capacity of community development corporations and corridor managers to actualize strategies aligned with neighborhood economic development goals and promote the growth of local economies.
We work alongside community-based partners to support vibrant commercial districts that serve neighborhoods as economic and cultural hubs- providing crucial goods and services to residents, activating local opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment, and providing valuable opportunities to interact as a community.
LISC invests in projects that cultivate entrepreneurship, attract new businesses and customers, diversify local retail mix, and stimulate employment and commerce. We deploy a number of strategies to help build thriving commercial districts through:
- Building the capacity of community partners to implement their corridor revitalization plans.
- Helping businesses get financial and technical support and connections to qualified workers.
- Providing technical assistance and financing to replace blight and vacancy with mixed-use and commercial developments.
Our current CBO partners and corridor districts include:
- HopePHL (Lancaster Ave., West Philadelphia)
- The Enterprise Center (52nd St., West Philadelphia)
- HACE CDC (North 5th St., Fairhill)
- Esperanza (North 5th St., Hunting Park)
- New Kensington CDC (Kensington Ave., Kensington)
- Impact Services (Kensington and Allegheny Aves., Kensington)
- North 5th Street Revitalization Project (North 5th St., Olney)
- The Village of Arts and Humanities (Germantown Ave., North Philadelphia)
