Financing
Residents and community groups in underserved places know best what will make their neighborhoods thrive. More affordable housing, better schools, lively commercial districts, quality jobs, safer streets—these are things all residents want. The ideas and vision are there, but too often, what's missing is the capital to get these projects realized. That’s where LISC lending comes in.
What We Offer
As a non-profit, philanthropic lender, we seek to strike a balance between risk management and fulfilling community needs by funding projects that mainstream financial institutions may not.
- We bring national and local investment resources to communities.
- We provide flexible loan capital.
- We invest early at the pre-development stage, allowing projects to get off the ground.
- We bring expertise in specialized underwriting for complex projects such as schools, health care centers and affordable housing.
- And we are willing to go to historically risky markets where more traditional lenders may not venture.
We support community-based and mission-driven real estate projects through pre-development to permanent financing — and finance a wide variety of projects from large affordable housing to transformational investments in economic development.
LISC Rhode Island has used equity investments through its tax credits allocations to finance neighborhood health centers, grocery stores, arts centers and affordable homes across the State.
We make grants to help community development organizations build their capacity, build community and strengthen community engagement.
