LISC Rhode Island, in partnership with the Department of Human Services, will host a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment & Training (SNAP E&T) Information Fair on Tuesday, Nov. 12 to provide resources for SNAP participants. The fair will showcase employment and training programs from up to 18 SNAP Employment and Training providers in Rhode Island.
The event will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Farm Fresh Rhode Island, 10 Sims Avenue, in Providence. Free parking is available.
SNAP Employment & Training is a federal program of the US Department of Agriculture that helps SNAP participants gain skills and find work that moves them forward to self-sufficiency. Through the program, SNAP participants have access to training and support services to help them enter or move up in the workforce. These programs help to reduce barriers to work by providing support services such as transportation and childcare. Currently, there are 18 providers enrolled in the federally funded SNAP E&T program in Rhode Island.
“We’ll have E&T providers including Genesis Center, Amos House, CCRI and others offering an extensive array of courses and individualized training,” said Sue Leonardi, program officer at Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), which administers the SNAP Employment & Training program in partnership with the State.
“Highlights of the day will include representatives from culinary, dental tech, manufacturing, etc. The programs and services offered to the community at this event represent opportunities for personal growth, education, and hands-on training, which contributes to job placement and steady employment.”
In addition, bilingual counselors will be available to help applicants complete required paperwork and apply for SNAP benefits.
The full list of E&T providers attending include: Amos House, Genesis Center, Jane Addams Resource Center, Connecting for Children and Families, Crossroads Rhode Island, Dorcas International Institute, Foster Forward, OpenDoors, Providence Public Library, Refugee Dream Center, Rhode Island Regional Adult Learning, Turning Around Ministries, West Bay Community Action and Year Up. Rhodeway Financial will also be attending.
