Creative Capital
Providing grants, loans and equity needed to support housing, community facilities, small businesses and community development projects, particularly those related to the core mission of investing in transformative projects in Rural America.
Small businesses especially in rural areas are a critical part of the U.S. economy. Businesses with less than 20 employees account for 90% of all firms, and those that are self-employed account for 10.5% of the active workforce. Rural LISC fosters the natural entrepreneurial drive found in rural communities to create homegrown businesses that boost resiliency for small communities.
Rural LISC partners with organizations that provide creative capital, expertise and market opportunities to drive business and job expansion for small enterprises overlooked by traditional financing channels. We do this by providing technical support and flexible loan and equity options to fund real estate development, business acquisition/transfer, equipment and working capital. We are dedicated to working through rural community-based organizations to expand our efforts to develop a pipeline of educated and skilled entrepreneurs.
The Rural Innovation Hub model, developed by the Center on Rural Innovation (CORI), focuses on the creation of a live/work hub within a community’s downtown, in coordination with digital skills training to support remote jobs and technology ventures.
How do small businesses thrive in Rural America? As the country undergoes continual change, LISC’s focus on equitable economic development is a response to that question.
