Community Ownership, Community Stewardship
In recognition of National Co-Op month, local practitioners and national experts gathered to discuss community ownership models and benefits in both housing and commercial applications. LISC Community Research & Impact's Julia Duranti-Martínez shared a keynote presentation on how commercial community ownership creates a pathway to just development, and local partners participated in panel discussions about the challenges, opportunities, needs, and impacts of community ownership. Thank you to our panelists for sharing their wonderful insights! Keynote presentation slides and additional resources on this topic are available below.

ADUs: The State of the Market
Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are everywhere in San Antonio, and recent updates to city development code have reduced some restrictions on building new ADUs. So how are mortgage lending, property appraisal, and development impacted by these casitas, in-law suites, or garage apartments? 60 developers, contractors, nonprofit staff members, lenders, and local government staffers gathered to explore these topics and more at “ADUs: The State of the Market” on June 25, 2024.
Along with a presentation from the City of San Antonio on regulatory and program updates, representatives from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae shared insight into how GSE mortgage products factor in ADU income, and panelists from various fields discussed valuation and taxation of accessory units and buying and lending on homes with casitas. Many thanks to Frost Bank for hosting this event!
