Safety & Justice

LISC Upstate SC understands that the health and vibrancy of communities depend on safety. It’s important for people to understand that their streets and parks are peaceful environments where their kids can go on their daily walks without dread. Additionally, maintaining resident involvement in neighborhoods and luring companies that value the community depend on safety. Local businesses can thrive when neighborhoods are safe. The strategy for reducing crime brings together partners with various resources, viewpoints, and knowledge pertinent to those issues. By doing this, we aim to lower crime while also creating the infrastructure and confidence needed to create robust and secure communities.

Our Safety & Justice program is place based, targeted in the Highland Community, in Spartanburg, SC. LISC’s National Safety & Justice team worked with the City of Spartanburg to secure a three-year, $1 million Community Based Crime Reduction grant from the Department of Justice. The LISC Upstate SC team, in partnership with the City of Spartanburg, supports the efforts of The Bethlehem Center to advance community safety through this federally funded grant, providing training, technical assistance, and coordinating community-based safety initiatives in collaboration with the City of Spartanburg Police and Neighborhood Services Department.
