AS THE VIRGINIA OFFICE REFLECTS ON OUR ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2023, captured within this report alongside the poignant narratives of those touched by our initiatives, we find ourselves propelled forward into an inter-connected world with a renewed sense of purpose.
If we were to use just one word to describe LISC’s approach to programs and investments throughout 2023, it would be this: urgent.
This report details our 2021 accomplishments and stories from those impacted by our work. But we are squarely in the midst of charging ahead in our post-pandemic world. There is much work still to be done.
In 2020, LISC Virginia provided grants to small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, supported its FOC partners in helping families achieve financial stability, invested in new affordable housing, and provided New Markets Tax Credit for the Anna Julia Cooper School expansion.
In 2018, LISC Virginia provided loans for affordable housing and economic development projects, continued our support in Richmond's Northside and East End, cultivated Petersburg partners to reset the single-family housing market, and worked to create safer streets.
In 2017, LISC Virginia built out its FOC network, assisted in the development of 471 quality affordable housing units, granted $128,000 in small business grants, made the first investments for a Church Hill grocery store, and worked with local leaders to improve safety efforts in Richmond's Northside.
In 2016, LISC Virginia continued to provide affordable housing, revitalize businesses, build financial skills, foster community leadership, and grow safe and healthy families.
