Housing Developer Training Institute (HDTI)

LISC Virginia’s HDTI seeks to provide comprehensive training in multi-family affordable housing development within a community development context for both nonprofit and for-profit housing developers. 

LISC has been a leader in training the housing developers of the future since 1988 with over 400 graduates representing 100 community development organizations who have created nearly 30,000 affordable homes for people with low incomes. In partnership with Virginia Housing and the City of Richmond,LISC Virginia is proud to launch its Housing Developer Training Institute in Fall 2024! Applications for the Fall 2024 cohort have closed, but you can sign up for our mailing list to be notified when we open applications for the Spring 2025 program.

Program goals:

  • Increase the development capacity of affordable housing developers by providing practical, comprehensive, and intensive skill training in affordable housing development and community development strategies and techniques.

  • Increase the supply of affordable housing.

  • Foster a network of project management professionals who serve as a resource to each other, share information, and provide peer support throughout their careers.

Curriculum:

We provide modules on:

  • Real estate development terms
  • Financial feasibility
  • Housing finance
  • Managing development
  • Identifying sites
  • Tax credit projects
  • Planning & zoning
  • Construction management
  • Marketing and lease-up
  • Property and asset management.

Sessions will begin in late September. The course will be held virtually, with online and in-person sessions in the Richmond area. The exact dates are shown below.
