Bridges to Career Opportunities

Healthy, sustainable communities are made up of people who have living wage jobs and feel confident about their economic futures. Yet a basic skills gaps not only prevents low-income individuals from getting well-paid jobs, but keeps them from participating in training and credentialing programs that can lead to living wage jobs. Many can’t access existing training because they lack the basic literacy required, or because chronic financial challenges interfere with persisting in such programs once admitted.

LISC’s Bridges to Career Opportunities (BCO) program responds to these problems, expanding the reach of our Financial Opportunity Centers by filling in critical education gaps that keep people from good jobs. FOC clients can ramp up foundational literacy and math skills, get technical training, and pursue certifications for a particular industry—and receive support like financial coaching to set long-term goals and help manage expenses during training.
