Green Development

Building resilient communities for a greener tomorrow.

LISC understands that healthy, sustainable communities require robust and intentional investment in climate resilience. Communities, especially those disproportionately affected by climate change, need access to the tools, resources, and support necessary to thrive in a greener economy. That's why we integrate climate adaptation strategies into all aspects of our work to fuel affordable housing, thriving businesses, community health and jobs—promoting equitable development that connects people in underserved communities to new opportunities.

LISC provided financing to support the creation of Cycle House, one of the first net-zero energy, affordable housing projects in Washington, DC.

Our approach

Our comprehensive approach helps communities adapt to climate change, enhance energy efficiency, and promote green careers and businesses. This includes supporting environmental justice, fostering local leadership, and driving green innovation to build sustainable urban landscapes that enhance well-being and climate resilience for all.

Our work

We put our approach into action through our Green Development programs that help empower communities with the capital, training, and knowledge to participate in the green economy. This includes:

LISC has long funded groups supporting community gardens, like this one in Boston, that contribute to greening neighborhoods, polution mitigation, healthy food access and community-building.
