Building resilient communities for a greener tomorrow.
LISC understands that healthy, sustainable communities require robust and intentional investment in climate resilience. Communities, especially those disproportionately affected by climate change, need access to the tools, resources, and support necessary to thrive in a greener economy. That's why we integrate climate adaptation strategies into all aspects of our work to fuel affordable housing, thriving businesses, community health and jobs—promoting equitable development that connects people in underserved communities to new opportunities.
Our approach
Our comprehensive approach helps communities adapt to climate change, enhance energy efficiency, and promote green careers and businesses. This includes supporting environmental justice, fostering local leadership, and driving green innovation to build sustainable urban landscapes that enhance well-being and climate resilience for all.
Our work
We put our approach into action through our Green Development programs that help empower communities with the capital, training, and knowledge to participate in the green economy. This includes:
- Power Forward Communities, a $2B coalition to provide capital for affordable residential decarbonization throughout the country.
- What’s Possible: Investing NOW for Prosperous, Sustainable Neighborhoods, a timely and crucial guidebook to equitable green investing and community development.
- Providing loans for green building projects with a focus on retrofitting of affordable housing for energy efficiency, resiliency, and cost savings.
- Through our LISC Massachusetts office, a multipronged approach to green affordable housing through their Climate Ready Housing Program, Decarbonization Hub, STAR Solar Program and Energy Cohort.
- Building disaster response and recovery resources, like the Climate Change Preparedness Toolkit for Business Development Organizations prepared in partnership with Climate Advisory.
- Connecting workers to opportunities in the green economy, like Bridges to Green Jobs, a living-wage weatherization job program in Boston.
