The Burke County Sheriff’s Office, with a total staff of 136, is the principal law enforcement agency for Burke County, Georgia, serving a population of 24,310. The percentage of calls for service concerned with violent crime has increased for the past two years in Burke County. The Sheriff’s Office will use the RVCRI grant to fund the hiring of a full-time crime analyst. This position will support the office’s efforts to better understand the drivers and patterns of violent crime within its jurisdiction. The analyst will help ensure timely internal dissemination of crime analysis data. The new position will also bolster the Sheriff’s Office’s efforts at community partnership and joint problem solving around identified crime hot spots within Burke County.
