Beautiful Beginnings Child Care Center

About the project

Established in 1992, Jammat Housing and Community Development Corporation is a community-based and minority-owned nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the outcomes of underserved residents of Rhode Island. In 1999, Jammat Housing and Community Development Corporation expanded their key programs to include Beautiful Beginnings Child Care Center, which serves children from six months to five years old.

In addition to a $10,000 planning grant and $65,000 recoverable grant to support classroom expansion and improvement, LISC provided a $600,000 loan to renovate a Verizon warehouse into a child care center serving local familiees. Jammat has utilized LISC financing to renovate the building and expand the program in order to open an Early Head Start classroom serving 16 very low-income children ages 0-3, a State Pre-K classroom for 18 students, and a Pre-K classroom for 10 students. The renovation extended outside as well and improved the health and safety of the outdoor play space by adding shade trees, surfacing, and additional play elements. Additionally, in 2021 LISC provided $91,000 in City of Providence Early Learning Facilities grants in order to increase the health and safety of the space by replacing the roof. LISC’s financial investments to date total $969,500, but also LISC has consistently provided technical assistance since 2001 through now, where efforts are in place to develop plans for the future expansion of Beautiful Beginnings.
