In The Black
About the project
The San Francisco Housing Development Corporation (SFHDC) was formed in 1988 by a handful of Black community leaders who were interested in combating the widespread displacement of the ’60s and ’70s. Governmental agencies removed residents through ‘redevelopment programs’ that disproportionately affected African Americans and other people of color. Its mission is to foster financial opportunity and stability through the development of affordable housing, the facilitation of homeownership and the economic empowerment and revitalization of the Fillmore and Bayview neighborhoods of San Francisco.
SFHDC is located in San Francisco, CA.
LISC facilitated a $250,000 loan to cover tenant improvement expenses, supporting In The Black—a dynamic project owned and operated by SFHDC. This innovative venture serves as a creative and entrepreneurial marketplace, offering Black-owned businesses access to affordable retail space. This loan was made through LISC's parnership with Kaiser Permanent and MacKenzie Scott.
