Circle Practice: Building Relationships and Fostering Community

This webinar is part of a series on the Enhancing School Capacity to Address Youth Violence program from LISC Safety & Justice and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). Through this program, LISC is helping schools and community partners create coordinated safety strategies that address the social determinants of safety for students, families, and communities. DOJ OJJDP provides national leadership, coordination, and resources to prevent and respond to youth delinquency and victimization.

Overview

The Enhancing School Capacity to Address Youth Violence program supports the development and expansion of local programs and strategies that increase school safety by preventing and reducing school violence. In furtherance of this goal, this webinar explores the use of circle practice to empower and engage youth.

Community building circles are one restorative practice used to foster community and build better relationships among students and staff. These circles can serve as a foundation towards shifting school culture and climate. Join us as we discuss the elements of circle practice, examine how circle practice fits into restorative practices, and consider what is needed to implement circle practices in your school and community.
