About the project
Citizens of the World Charter Schools Los Angeles (CWCLA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, CA operating seven sites under five LAUSD-authorized charters. The schools’ mission is to provide a socioeconomically, culturally, and racially diverse community of students in the heart of each of their neighborhoods, with an intellectually challenging, experiential learning environment that develops each individual student’s confidence, potential, and individual responsibility as citizens of the world. In the 2022-23 school year, the five charter schools together enrolled 2,515 students.

LISC provided a $4.10 million loan to CWCLA to support tenant improvements at its West Valley location. The building will add six new classrooms, increasing total capacity to 650 students. Improvements also include a spacious art room, thoughtful library space, spaces for student services, administrative offices and a renovated gym. The project will meet CA Green Building Standards and include building electrification, solar-ready roof and storm water management. This loan was partially funded with funds from Mackenzie Scott. This is a participation loan with Capital Impact Partners.
