Community Partnership School Expansion
About the project
The Community Partnership School (CPS) was founded in 2006 to provide educational opportunities for very low-income children in the Strawberry Mansion community. Over the past 10 years, they have built their support base and have matriculated 160 or so current students and alumni. They leased their classroom in a community facility but outgrew that space and sought a new and permanent home to expand their school, implement expanded programming, and enable them to have greater connection with the community.
CPS is headquartered in Philadelphia, PA.
With a $1.35 million LISC loan, CPS purchased a 55,000 square foot vacant warehouse located in North Philadelphia at the edge of gentrifying neighborhood Brewerytown and a lower-income neighborhood, Strawberry Mansion. CPS completed a $10 million renovation of the building to create classrooms, a gym, and administration space, enabling the school to double its student enrollment over the next five years.
