Eaton Place Homes Development Project
About the project
The East Orange Housing Community Development Corporation (EOHCDC) is a subsidiary of the East Orange Housing Authority (EOHA) that was created for the purposes of: (a) assisting the EOHA with the development and redevelopment of housing in the neighborhoods in the City of East Orange, (b) developing economic opportunities for low and moderate income individuals in need of assistance, and (c) consulting, financing, developing, redeveloping, planning, owning and creating housing opportunities for low to moderate income individuals and families throughout the state of New Jersey. The organization was created in 2015 as the development arm of the EOHA and built a staff and Board of Directors that is focused on its aforementioned mission.
EOHCDC/EOHA’s primary market is New Jersey’s Essex County, with their key focus on the City of East Orange.
LISC provided a $1.20 million construction loan to support the EOHCDC/EOHA's new affordable housing development in the Greenwood neighborhood. The EOHCDC/EOHA acquired four contiguous lots from the city of East Orange and two additional contiguous lots from private ownership to construct six single family row homes that will be rented to families with incomes 60% AMI or lower via the HUD Section 8 program. Each home will be over 2,100 square feet and will have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, garages with off-street parking, and back yard space with decks. The EOHA will manage the property and will use its current waiting list to fill the units. This project is a part of an overarching effort to strengthen affordable housing and homeownership opportunities in the Greenwood section of the city of East Orange, which was one of New Jersey's hardest hit with foreclosures and property abandonmnet during the economic downturn in 2008. In addition, the project will support the stability of the immediate neighborhood by eliminating a vacant property, removing blight, and providing newly constructed affordable townhome units that are much needed in the area.
