Flanner House Wellness Center
About the project
Flanner House of Indianapolis is a not-for-profit social services agency founded in 1898. The agency began as a settlement house for ex-slaves and share croppers who migrated to the north after slavery. The agency’s mission has evolved over the years. The current strategic mission is to support, advocate for and empower individual’s children and families by applying educational, social and economic resources that move the community towards self-sufficiency.
Flanner House of Indianapolis is located on the northwest side of Indianapolis and most of its services are deployed to children, individuals and families in the immediate area, and many of its services are available to any qualified recipient in Marion County. The agency is home to several co-located services such as the Marion County Prosecutor, Flanner House Elementary School and a branch of the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library.
LISC provided a $260,000 construction loan that will be used to build a new 1,400 square foot wellness center owned and operated by Flanner House. Flanner House will develop a neighborhood located, non-clinical setting for the delivery of mental healthcare, the King Commons Family Wellness Center. The center will be a multidisciplinary behavioral health care practice that offers culturally relevant and responsive mental health services to the community of Northwest Indianapolis.
