Harmony House Residential Development
About the project
Harmony House was founded in 1992 by a group of concerned social service, medical, and business professionals dedicated to addressing the housing and health care needs of Houston’s increasing homeless population. The mission of Harmony House is to provide permanent and transitional housing for homeless persons in a supportive, drug and alcohol-free community; to provide primary health and respite care for homeless persons who are too sick to be on the streets but not sick enough to be in a hospital.
Harmony House is located in Houston, TX.
LISC partnered with Harmony House on a $288,000 predevelopment loan to build a new supportive housing and medical respite facility adjacent to their current location, allowing Harmony House to expand their services. Harmony House partners with the Harris County Hospital District and Houston Department of Health and Human Services Tuberculosis Control Division, providing three to 12 months of housing, treatment, and supportive services to homeless individuals recovering from injury or illness. Residents are able access the on-site medical clinic and pharmacy, catered meals, transportation to medical appointments, and a staff of professionals trained to oversee physician prescribed medication and treatment. Now in its 23rd year of operation, Harmony House Residence and Respite Center provides transitional supportive housing to homeless working men with disabilities. This project helps Harmony House reach an unmet need for supportive services that is critical for persons living with tuberculosis, and helps the City of Houston work towards its goal to end homelessness.
