Loppet Adventures
About the project
Established in 2002, the Loppet Foundation, Inc. strives to create a shared passion for year-round outdoor activities in the Minneapolis area. With a particular focus on underserved youth and families, the Loppet Foundation provides adventure programming, community events, trail and recreation services, and subsidized competitive training for young winter athletes.
The Loppet Foundation is headquartered in the Twin Cities, with a particular emphasis on North Minneapolis.
LISC provided $94,000 in mini-permanent financing to support the development of a new center at 3800 Humboldt Ave N., located in Minneapolis' Ward 4. The 8,000 square foot center will serve as office space for employees, storage and repair space for equipment, and as a headquarters for youth programming. The newly constructed base of operations will also create 83 jobs to be filled by members of the Northside community, as well as allow the Loppet Foundation to increase the scale and effectiveness of its youth programs (which currently serve 1,000 students from Minneapolis Public Schools). The property is part of the Loppet Foundation's larger project "The Trailhead," which includes the Trailhead / Welcome Center developed at nearby Theodore Wirth Park that will create opportunities for physical activity and improving health by engaging community in efforts to reclaim underutilized park space.
