Since 1997, North Star Academy Charter School of Newark (NSA) has served Newark families with an award-winning instructional model that supports students' academic and personal growth. Their teachers infuse joy into every day, creating an engaging learning environment and preparing every student to succeed in college and beyond.
NSA is headquartered in Newark, NJ and 86% of its students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.
LISC provided a $7,000,000 acquisition loan to North Star Academy Foundation and Uncommon Schools. NSA created a special purpose entity to purchase 18 Washington Place, a property adjacent to an existing NSA high school and middle school. The purchase allowed NSA to continue to grow its middle and high school enrollment, and provided additional administrative office space.
