Nubian Square Ascends

About the project

Nubian Ascend Partners LLC is a newly formed entity operating in Boston, MA. The Managing Director is Richard Taylor, a longtime political figure in Boston with expertise in corporate management, local real estate development and investment experience.

LISC provided a $500,000 loan to support the Nubian Square Ascends project, which is proposed to redevelop a former parking lot into an arts and cultural hub with entertainment, a cultural hall, gallery, arts lab, marketplace, culinary center and artist housing. Nubian Square was once Boston’s second commercial center. The goal of the Project is to re-establish the Square as an employment, cultural, and social focus of the Roxbury community. By creating new opportunities for local MBE businesses and entrepreneurs, promoting Black and Hispanic arts and culture, and connecting low-income Roxbury residents to the region’s life science industry through job training, the Project will be a socioeconomic and artistic vehicle to create and expand equity. Five other participating lenders provided an additional $2.5 million to the project.
