Oasis Hub
About the project
Platform for Social Impact is an umbrella organization focused on family economic mobility in Puerto Rico. The movement includes organizations such as Boys & Girls Club of Puerto Rico, Youth Development Institute, Vimenti Charter School, Project Makers, and Vidalus. Together, the network spans 600+ employees across 12 sites, 5 entities, and over 1,000 volunteer advocates. PSI’s foundational research and development took place as part of BGCPR, up until July 1, 2022 when PSI became a separate entity.
PSI is based in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
LISC provided a $3.71 million bridge loan to support the development of the Oasis Hub. The Oasis Hub will convert an abandoned former public school to a modern campus for Vimenti Charter School, BGCPR programs and a health clinic - addressing BGCPR's educational, economic and social program pillars. Vimenti Charter School will be able to grow to serve up to 600 K-12 students, up from 275. Workforce training and a social incubator on site will be aimed at fostering economic mobility through serving an additional 400 low-income residents annually. For Vimenti Charter School students, entrepreneurship programming begins at age nine. A third-party healthcare provider, Vidalus, has been selected to lease the health center and implement a multi-tiered approach to families’ social and emotional health needs, serving approximately 4,000 low-income community residents annually. Low Income Investment Fund, Nonprofit Finance Fund and Raza Development Fund all participated in the loan, bringing the total loan amount to $14.83 million.
