Pride Academy Charter School
About the project
Since 2008, Pride Academy Charter School has been educating students in grades 5-8. Pride Academy Charter School endeavors to ignite success in middle school students of all abilities through a curriculum rooted in the values of peace, respect, integrity, determination, and empathy. By establishing a community dedicated to academic achievement, mastery of fundamental skills, positive leadership, and active service, Pride Academy Charter School strives to embolden its students to harness their own power to shape their futures and the world.
Pride Academy is located in East Orange, NJ. At the time of closing, 82% of Pride Academy’s student population was eligible for free or reduced price lunch.
LISC provided a $930,000 loan to finance the construction a two-floor addition to their existing school building. Once complete, the first floor will contain a gym, a music room, and a large common space which will serve as an assembly room and cafeteria for teachers and students, and as a conference room for school faculty. The school has been recognized by the NJDOE for its student performance growth on state assessments and successful college and career readiness programs. Due to its success, Pride Academy was asked to increase its already at-capacity enrollment in 2015-16. At the time of closing, Pride Academy was the only charter middle school alternative to traditional public middles school in East Orange.
