Mental Health & Substance Abuse Support Strategies for Schools
This webinar is part of a series on the Comprehensive School-Based Violence and Victimization Program from LISC Safety & Justice and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). DOJ OJJDP provides national leadership, coordination, and resources to prevent and respond to youth delinquency and victimization.
Overview
Lancaster County provides information on how they are working with community partners to implement school-based strategies designed to support students and reduce violence and victimization. El Rancho Unified School District describes how they are identifying and engaging students with ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and supporting them utilizing a mental health assessment and treatment plan, keeping students in school and reducing disciplinary actions. Laconia Public Schools talks about its partnership with community mental health centers to provide staff professional development opportunities and to serve as a referral source for students and their families seeking substance abuse supports.
