STOP School-Based CVI Approaches: Collaborations to Increase Parent/Family Engagement

This webinar is part of a series for the STOP School Violence Specialized Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Program. Through this program, LISC is helping schools and community partners understand the foundational elements of community violence intervention approaches and sharing guidance on planning and implementing school-based CVI strategies. This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance.

Overview

The importance of parent engagement on student outcomes is well known, however, even for well-resourced schools, parental engagement for students involved in violence in schools or the community can present unique challenges. Engagement and collaboration from community partners, particularly community violence intervention (CVI) agencies, can provide important links to families/parents. Our panel of school and CVI agency leadership defines key roles of staff at each institution, collaborative efforts to engage parents/families, and how their engagement has improved student connectiveness with schools and helped parents/families partner in efforts to address student conflicts and advocate and participate in decisions impacting their student.
