STOP School-Based CVI Approaches: Understanding the Impacts of Trauma
This webinar is part of a series for the STOP School Violence Specialized Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Program. Through this program, LISC is helping schools and community partners understand the foundational elements of community violence intervention approaches and sharing guidance on planning and implementing school-based CVI strategies. This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance.
Overview
Schools and its students are deeply impacted by violence in the community, particularly when a student is the victim. School policies and protocols to support students and staff vary widely on the types of responses offered, and many are limited due to staffing challenges that require specialized education/training to address the acute crisis and the potential of revictimization and retaliation. Panelists Anne Marks and Dr. Kathryn Bocanegra share the science behind the impact of community violence on youth brains, and how schools can support youth in days/weeks following an incident. They also share how school and community partners can collaborate to ensure students are being supported in and outside the schools.
